Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Birmingham

Monet, Manet, and Magritte; Renoir, Rubens, Rossetti and Rodin; Degas, Delacroix and van Dyck - not to mention Turner, Gainsborough, Gauguin, van Gogh, Picasso...You can see major works by all these great artists in the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, at the University of Birmingham's Edgbaston campus, just three miles south of Birmingham's city centre.

The Barber is like a mini National Gallery in the Heart of England, and is also Birmingham's finest Art Deco building. Conceived by Dame Martha Barber in the early 1920s as an institute 'for the study and encouragement of Art and Music' for the University, the galleries also include a stunning coin gallery, with one of the finest collections of Roman, Byzantine and medieval coins in the world, and some fascinating decorative arts objects.

There is also an exciting programme of temporary exhibitions, concerts, public lectures and gallery talks, workshops and family activities, including the spectacular Family Open Day. Admission to the galleries and all exhibitions is free.
